14U Wins Motor City Showdown Tournament
14U Goes 8-0 to Win Motor City Showdown Tournament
The 14U breezed through their pool games on Friday & Saturday beating every team they played by mercy going 5-0 scoring 66 runs, while allowing just 6. Those opponents included: Kitchener Klassics (Canada), Wizards Elite (Toledo), Queens of Diamonds, West Michigan Sabercats, & Devils Fastpitch.
The warm weather seemed to slow the Finesse 14U Machine down in Sunday's bracket play, which made for some close games. In the first game versus the Livonia Storm, the ladies trailed the entire game and into the last inning by a score of 3-1. But they would not be denied. They used 2 walks, a fielder's choice, and 4 clutch hits to win one of their more exciting games of the season by a score of 4-3.
The second game was versus the Montgomery County Hammers from Dayton, Ohio. A 4-run 4th inning gave the ladies all they needed with solid pitching and great defense winning the game 5-2.
In the Championship game they would face the West Michigan Sabercats, a team they had previously mercied on Saturday. A 2-0 lead slipped away and the game was tied at the end of the 7th inning at 4 a side. The international tie breaker rule was used with Finesse as the away team. The ladies found some energy scoring 5 runs in the 8th inning, which would be more than enough to get the win with more great pitching and defense winning the game and the championship 9-5.
The ladies will stay in Canton this week to play in the USSSA State Tournament in a field of 33 teams.
